HISTORY
Milwaukee Brewing Company started in 1996 in
the basement of a farmhouse in Cedarburg by two Milwaukee area home
brewers. With limited resources and unlimited delicious beer ideas, our
little Milwaukee Brewing Company opened it’s Milwaukee Ale House in 1997 in
Milwaukee’s Third Ward. The Milwaukee Ale House has been a fixture in
Milwaukee since then, and helped bring many thirsty patrons to the now-hip
neighborhood. The “Ale’s what Cures Ya!” tag gives a nod to a pitch line
from the past, and now it is a mission statement for our brewery.
After unsuccessful attempts to package our
popular beer brands at other breweries in Wisconsin, Milwaukee Brewing Company
decided to forge ahead and build a new packaging brewery in the city of
Milwaukee. Milwaukee Brewing Company’s 2nd Street Brewery is a
craft brewer’s dream, melding authentic hands-on technique with
state-of-the-art quality control features.
The beers brewed by our talented crew are unique
interpretations of customary beer styles, each tied to cool and quirky stories
from the recent and distant history of our city. For example, the Pullchain
Pail Ale is a fusion of English and American pale ales styles, with a
bitterness derived for an unusual and innovative hop schedule in the
recipe. That is why we pimp on the classic Pale Ale designation, and call
it a Pail Ale in reference to the story behind the brew. The Flaming Damsel
Real Blonde is a Bavarian Lager with an American hop finish. Since
the story involves a redhead, and the term ‘blonde’ has been overused in recent
years, we call her a Real Blonde. Of course our most recognized Louie’s
Demise is a hybrid between a West Coast Amber and a Scotch Ale, so the
story wins out again. Louie’s is a timeless bar story that will live on
forever told be this beer, so we designated it an Immort-ale. A groaner,
but relevant nonetheless!
